Degree Specific Registration Information

All MPA students

  • All coursework taken outside of O’Neill requires the official approval of your degree program's Faculty Program Director, using the Outside-Program Course Request Form. Students may pursue up to 6 credit hours outside of O'Neill with a compelling rationale approved by the Faculty Program Director. Courses taken outside of O’Neill must earn a grade of B or better. A B- or lower in an outside course will not be counted towards your degree. *Students should also complete the Academic Exceptions Form if they wish for an outside course to count toward their respective concentration(s).

Fall 2025 O’Neill Online courses will open to residential students on July 28th

Residential students interested in enrolling in online courses must read the Online Enrollment FAQ document below on this webpage before registering for an online class. Failure to read and understand the online enrollment policy could result in possible irreversible consequences that could affect degree completion.

To seek approval for your internship, visit the O’Neill Career Hub website and complete an internship approval request. Internships not approved prior to the start of the internship will NOT be counted towards your degree. No exceptions will be considered. If you have questions about registering your internship, please email internqs@iu.edu.

Graduation Application Information & Deadlines

As you prepare to submit your graduation application, please be sure to check your online Academic Advisement Report(AAR). Instructions for accessing/using the AAR are available here. Please plan ahead—ideally, students should address any missing requirements (substitutions, outside program course requests, etc.) before applying to graduate if at all possible.

After you apply for graduation, you will receive an email regarding your graduation application status. Please allow us 2-3 weeks to review your record. Advising appointments are available for those who have not yet met with an advisor regarding course registration or their final graduation requirements.

You must apply to graduate in order for your degree to be conferred. Attending the commencement and/or recognition ceremonies is optional but encouraged.

  • Indiana University’s Commencement is typically scheduled for the Saturday after the last day of classes for fall and spring terms. Please visit the IU Commencement website for more information as it becomes available.
  • O’Neill’s Recognition Ceremony is still in the planning stages. Additional details and formal announcements will be communicated via email to students who have applied for graduation.
